Default washer leaks when draining/discharging
Model Number: wwa8364v   Brand: GE   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

Hi Guys,

First, not sure on the age of my washer, as Im just guessing, anf there is NO ser# etc I could find

Im wondering how to open up my washer to find the leak. I pulled it from the wall while it was running, and when it started draining I peeked from the back, upward, above the top curve/turn of the drain tube and found leakage dripping from way above. looked like it was coming from a molded natural polyethylene plastic gadget.

Problem is I cant open the top up to dig deeper/identify the actual piece. There are no obvious screws, etc. Any tips? A scematic might help....

Thanks,
Pip

update/correction: washer leaks but not sure it is ONLY when draining. Have confirmed the hose is not at fault. Have opened up the top and noticed the big blk rubber gasket around the perimiter had plumbers putty smeared on it in the past (factory?). Could this be the culprit, guys?

Would you replace old putty with fresh/new and try it given the situation?

Thanks!

Helloooooooo (cupping hands like megaphone, echo as in deep, abandoned cave).......

A simple yes/no/bad idea to use plumbers putty would be nice. How long does one have to wait to get a basic reply........nothing like making a guy wait a week for this, putting off the repair. If this repair is too much of a challenge , just let me know, and I will go on........

Guess what, "technicians/helpers/forum advisors", I figured it out, no thanks to yous here. You guys are quite pathetic, at times (like this), at other times, you werent, as you actually helped out. To have a forum member drag out his problem for days and days, with NO replies at all. Good going. Good role models too.

Sorry you were not served in a timely manner, but we have had this conversation before. The Forum is staffed by volunteers and we try to help those who need immediate help, those who have waited a long time for a response, those who have a problem of a highly technical nature who need expert advice and those who have maybe not been helped in the past.

If you will stroll through the Forum on various sections you will see that some folks have to wait much longer than you did for a response, and some do not get a response at all, because everyone who responds is a volunteer and have other things which need our attention. We help as much as we can.

We gave you a substantial amount of attention on a previous problem recently, and quite frankly your current problem looked to me like something you should be able to figure out for yourself, which you did. That's great, glad you were able to do that and good luck with your machines in the future.
