I have a Maytag MAV6000AWW that is having an intermittent problem with spinning. When the wash cycle completes, the washer will spin. When the water is mostly drained out, the spin cycle is supposed to accelerate but is only doing so intermittently. It always spins out, just not at the final high speed. Initially, my wife started using the delicate cycle spin and that worked for a while but it is now becoming intermittent too. When it starts working, it will work for a while (a few days to a few weeks) and then stop. Sometimes she has been able to get it to go by fiddling with the timer knob.

I am thinking that the problem is in the timer module, and that the contacts are getting worn out, but at ~$100 for the part, I am hesitant to just guess.

Any thoughts on what else might cause this problem?

The first place to fix on these models is the thrust bearing, this part here.

Part number: AP4009132
Part number: AP4009132

Instructions are included and it is a lot less expensive than a timer.

Let us know how it works out.
