Default Whirlpool not working just humming
Model Number: LSQ8243HQ0   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 5 - 10 years

I Have a whirlpool that about a week ago went all the way through the cycle but stopped before the spin cycle and just made a humming noise. So I shut it off and restarted the cycle and everything was fine until my girlfriend tried to use it and before it got to the drain cycle it made a very loud buzzing noise. So I turned it off and went to restart the cycle an it wouldn't do anything only buzz like it did when it wouldn't go into the spin cycle. I decided to take it apart and check things like the motor and the pump, but with no success. With it all taken apart but wired up the motor doesn't spin only humms. Is it time for a new washer, motor or could it be something like the compasitor, or the motor switch, or the control panel. Any help would be appriciated my girlfriend is freaking out.

The first thing I would check is the wires connected to the motor.

Check for loose or broken wires at the motor plug.

Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool washer Model LSQ8243HQ0

if you dropped the motor and it has no tension on it anymore and it still hums? You need a new motor

Check for lateral play in the motor bearings, motor should turn freely and not bind up.
