replacing clutch on my kenmore washer. There aren't any grooves on the shaft to hold the c clip when putting on the new brake cam. any ideas?

It would be helpful if you could post a model number for us.

If this is a direct drive washer manufactured by whirlpool then the end of the shaft may have been rubbing until it ground it down past the grove that the clips go in.

kenmore model number is 110-82980120.

if that's the problem with the shaft, what are my options?

Replace the assembly or just the tube the clip attaches to if you can find it.

Are you replacing just the clutch or the clutch and the brake?
They are two different parts.

Could you post a photo of the part that does not have the grove in it for the c-clip?

I'm replacing the clutch and the brake. The brake slides onto a shaft and the c-clip locks the brake in place. There are no grooves to hold the clip in place.
