Hi,
It would be helpful if you could post a model number for us. If this is a direct drive washer manufactured by whirlpool then the end of the shaft may have been rubbing until it ground it down past the grove that the clips go in.

Replace the assembly or just the tube the clip attaches to if you can find it.

They are two different parts. Could you post a photo of the part that does not have the grove in it for the c-clip?
