This GE Prodigy washer will not spin and makes a horrible thumping noise when put on the spin cycle. It is a belt driven machine. Any suggestions?

Hi Melissa

You are going to want to remove the front, which you can do by releasing the two clips that hold it on. They can be released by inserting a putty knife or screw driver in the gap between the front and the top at the edges.

You are looking for broken support rods which you will see suspending the tub, and broken dampening straps. There are four of them which connect the top of the basket to the frame. Click on your model number and you will see an exploded view of them. Also look to see that there is nothing caught inbetween the drum and the tub and that there is nothing in the drain hoses.

If you cannot determine the cause, you can replace the suspension rods. They are the likliest cause of your problem.
