Washer makes "CLUNKING" noise after spin cycle.

Hello,

My Kenmore washer makes a CLUNKING noise as it slows down from the spin cycles, what could be causing that?? Every other function is working well.....

Thank you for your help,
APETTY

Hi Apetty,

This noise probably coming from the breaks. If the basket stops pretty fast and is not moving during the agitation - it's nothing to worry about at this time.

Hi Gene,

The basket does not come to a fast stop after the the spin cycle ends. It spins as if it was still in the spin cycle mode and making now making the clunking noise....

Thanks,
Andy

The first thing I would check is the drive block.

You can find the complete instructions in one of my previous posts: http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/...-spinning.html

Post your findings, please.

My Kenmore is doing the same exact thing. it is 5.4 years old. Top Loader.
Runs perfectly fine and spins fine, but when the motor shuts down to end the spin cycle, is makes clunking noises until the tub stops spinning. Another question: Shouldn't the aggetator in the middle be spinning with the drum? could this be the problem? It almost sounds like the Tub is jumping around inside the machine or liek the belt is jumping around and hitting the bottom of the tub when the motor shuts off??

Help

What is the complete model number of the washer?

WIsh I could tell you, it is in a property I own about 30 minutes from me. I do know I bought it in April of 04, but that does not help I know. It is a top Load washer, three load sizes, plactic tub, three water settings, and either Delicates wash or a whites wash cycle

You can ask your tenant to check the name plate under the lid.

Hi Gene,

I have a Kenmore Model 110.26892690 doing much the same clunking noise at the end of a spin cycle. It almost sounds as if the brakes are hopping at the stop.

I have just replaced the drive motor coupling; rubber block was definitely bad but I still have the clunking sound at the end of spin.

Would you still recomend checking the drive block for this problem?

Washer works just fine except for the noise which can be quite loud but not after every spin sycle; the basket does stop reasonably fast at the end of spin.

Thanks
Rew

I would pull out the spin basket and look for a busted plastic comb filter causing the noise.
If ok, you might have a bad transmission. I would pull out the tranny and turn the coupler clockwise till it engages the clutch housing, if you can feal a rough spot in the tranny=new tranny time.
