My Performa washer started smoking the other day and shut off. I called the repairman and he said it was the motor and it will cost $329.00 to put a new one in. When he turned on the washer everything was working and it still is. Could it really be the motor that is bad even though it still runs? thanks!

These motors have overload protection, so they should be fine. It is possible there was hangup somewhere in the machine (basket, transmission, pump ???) that worked itself loose.
If the machine is working, keep going, let us know if you have a problem, but it is doubtful the motor needs replacing.

Thanks so much for the information. It does seem like it runs just fine.
