Have read thru the forums about a Maytag Atlantis mavt634aww washer that won't spin. I have tested everything and all is well EXCEPT the brake dosen't seem to release. When I turn the thrust bearing pulley clockwise the agitator turns and the same ccw. I understood the brake was supposed to release in CCW rotation for the spin cycle. There also seems to be alot of play in the pulley. If I need to replace the thrust bearing do I need any special tools? Thanks, Wade

Got a new thrust bearing kit and installed...almost! I can't get the snap ring that holds everything on the shaft on. I'm using the new .032 washer (which is the same as what came off-old parts). I've pulled the shaft down with needle nose pliers but still not enough room. Any thoughts? Thanks,Wade

HI, Wade.
You need a second person to push down on the agitator with the washer upright as much as possible. Use heavy duty pliers to snap on the washer.
Good luck. Post the results.

Finally got snap ring on. Everything's good at this point...then tested. It's a no-go! Same problem persists. Called appliance man. He came out, took apart what I had done and re-assembled to be sure everything was correct. It was! After more testing appliance tech said the transmission was bad. I'll be back with those results. Thanks to everyone that helped. Wade
