I have a Kenmore Series 90 washing machine. Model #110.26912691 that has run like a champ for 15 years. Today when I went to start it I discovered the water won't kick in on any wash cycle. I tried all the wash cycles (Ultra wash, permanent press, and even pre-wash) trying to get the water to kick on. The curious thing is the water does come on and fill the drum when I set the dial to the rinse/spin cycle. It seems to me that perhaps a solenoid has gone bad? What could be the issue that water is not allowed to come in when a wash cycle is selected? When I select a rinse cycle the drum fills and the machine does rinse and spin as is the norm for the cycle.
Any suggestions?

I appreciate the response and your willingness to help Gary. I narrowed it down to the timer switch as my washer's problem seemed to be limited to the wash cycle. I changed it out and the machine has run great with the new switch.
