I have a Maytag Performa PAVT454EWW. Single belt. Multi speed. I can agitate and drain, but cannot spin. While on the spin cycle, the brake is engaged. If I hold the agitator, I get a slow spin, no brake. I can slow the spin by hand, turn by hand, etc. as until I release the lid switch. I depress, I get the agitator, but no spin.
Can one direction of the motor be burnt out? Thoughts? Diagnostic tricks?

Can one direction of the motor be burnt out? Thoughts? Diagnostic tricks? Hello . Yes the Part number: AP4024680
can be burnt in one speed , and since you are having the burn smell is the most likely problem you can also check the Part number: AP4009132
thrust bearing which also deals with the spin this is where I would start. thank you and good luck!
