the noise is only in the spin mode, and it does spin, but sounds like a lot of grinding. some white flakes under the unit by the drive area. need help soon. thanks

There are two real good possibilities here , I would say first would be the Part number: AP4009132
Part number: AP4009132
thrust bearing kit, and next would be the water pumpPart number: AP4373022
Part number: AP4373022
it could have something lodged in it, or the bearing could be coming out , you can tilt the unit backwards, look in between the pulley and the bottom of the pump, there is a silver sleeve that slides out and down against that pulley, that is a sure sign of a bad pump, those are the two most likely problems , Thank you and good luck!

Rancheman,

A bad tub bearing, usually produces a squealing or rumbling noise, from the bottom area of the outer tub. If the noise is from the bottom of the washer, Thats usually a worn out thrust bearing or noisy drain pump shaft.

:) :) :)
