I constantly have problems with loads being too wet after the wash cycle in this machine finishes (I don't like the load sensor feature :(). Yesterday I restarted a load from "Spin" in the Colors cycle. Instead of waiting for the spin cycle to finish I opened the lid midway through, as I have done numerous times before. The drum stopped immediately, almost like slamming on the brakes in a car - it has done this before. After I checked the clothes and re-closed the lid the washer would not restart. I posted this problem on a different site, I was told to hand-turn the drum one full rotation clockwise and restart from the Rinse cycle. This did not work, and as a matter of fact, I can no longer turn the drum at all it is too tight. I read somewhere that "drum locking" is a problem - had never heard of this but..... I don't believe this is a problem with the lid switch, as I can hear it "click" when I open and close the lid with the machine plugged in. Is there any way to unlock a locked drum without having major mechanical skills or am I going to have to call someone in to look at this problem? Any advice will be appreciated - I have 3 kids at home and not having a working washer is a big problem!!

It sounds like that when you opened the machine the brakes engaged, as they should, to stop the spinning (This is a safety device so folks do not stick their arm in the machine and get it broken) and now they are not releasing so the machine can spin again. What you want to do is to try and gently turn the pulley on the transmission in a counterclockwise direction and see if this releases the brakes that are keeping the drum from spinning. If not, the recommendation would be to install the thrust bearing kit. (which you may have to do soon anyway) Part number: AP4009132
Good luck, let us know what you find out.
