Maytag Washer Stops At Rinse Cycle

Model Number: MAVT546ESS Brand: Maytag Age: 1 - 5 years

MAYTAG TOP LOAD CLOTHES WASHER MAVT546EWW (APPROXIMATELY 5 YEARS OLD) STOPS AFTER FILLING TUB FOR RINSE CYCLE (OCCASIONALLY WILL STOP AT WASH CYCLE). CONTROL PANEL LIGHTS STAY ON, BUT NOTHING HAPPENS. SOMETIMES THERE IS 'BURNED' SMELL.

LID SWITCH IS OK.
MANUALLY SELECTING 'RINSE AND SPIN' OR 'SPIN ONLY' DOES NOT WORK.
BELT AND PULLEYS LOOK OK.
TUB CAN BE TURNED BY HAND.

AFTER WASHER IS TURNED OFF FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES, IT WILL RESUME WASHING AND COMPLETE ALL CYCLES.

ANY GUIDANCE /ADVICE ON HOW TO FIX THIS WILL BE APPRECIATED.
