I have a Maytag washer that will not spin. I can spin it by hand but it is hard to do. It is much tighter than the motor would be able to turn. The motor does turn and the belt looks fine. It felt like maybe something got between the tubs and was presenting resistance, but I verified nothing between tubs. I haven't torn it apart but there is no visible signs or sounds that indicate a bearing.
Any thoughts on where I should focus my attention?

Pull the front panel and tilt the washer back. Remove the belts and turn the tranny pulley in the spin direction. The tranny should start to spin. If not, look for signs of water coming from the tub seal. If ok, you probably have something stuck in the tub. If a leak, you probably have stuck brake shoes.
Post results.

I followed those instructions and seemed fine. I ran in spin cycle and it worked. Ran a load through fine. Puzzling why it is working. I am sure I have not seen the last of this one. Thanks for your thoughts.

You probably jerked free the brake shoes. If it happens again, turn the tranny pulley and tap on the brake housing to release the brakes.
