The wife put a load in the washer this afternoon and the washer began making a loud high pitched whining noise while in the spin cycle. The washer doesnt make any other unusual noises during operation. Any and all help is appreciated.

Take off the cabinet and check for something caught between the tub and the basket. If you do not find anything, use a short wire to bypass the lid switch and operate the machine in spin. See if you can tell where the noise is coming from. It might be the brakes are not fully releasing.
