Washer died
Model Number: lat8626aae Brand: Maytag Age: More than 10 years
Washer was working fine all morning. Then on one load, it filled just a bit then stopped filling. We manually turned the knob to other cylcles and they did not work. We checked the circuit breaker. We checked the outlet and it works. Is there anything else we can check. Being about 15 years old, is it worth paying minimum for $90 for a service call?

For most accurate advice we need the complete serial number of the washer.

Most likely the problem is a bad lid switch.

Our washer fills with the lid open or closed. So you are saying that if the switch is broken it won't fill with the lid in either position. Right?
We are not mechanically inclined. Is this a fairly easy thing to fix on our own? Last edited by janejacobs : 02-18-2012 at 05:35 PM.

Sorry. I made a mistake. According to the serial number you need different lid switch which has the fuse. If the fuse is blown the water wont fill. If the fuse is open the most logical thing is to replace the lid switch assembly.
