Model Number: VVSR1040V1WW Brand: Hotpoint Age: 5 - 10 years
Washer seems to work fine except for spin cycle. A couple months ago we started hearing a rattling noise during spin cycle. It seems like the tub does not have as much "side to side" tension as it once did. I don't know if that has anything to do with the rattling or not.
Today the spin cycle will not work. You can hear the gearbox "kick in" when the cycle starts, but the agitator will not move. If you manually turn the agitator counter clockwise when the cycle begins it will "catch" and keep spinning until the cycle is complete. I hoping it's just a belt tension adjustment or maybe a new belt. What do you think? Ads By Google Related Models |

Take off the front panel (release the clips between the front and the top) and observe the machine trying to run.
This will tell you if the motor or the transmission or the clutch is the hangup.
