Hey all -

So, i've got a knocking during the agitation cycle at all speeds, and in removing the front cabinet panel, the tub and basket do indeed turn with the agitator. On other threads on this subject, this sounds like a failed mode shifter.

My parts diagram for my GE WJSR4160D0WW doesn't indicate a mode shifter exists, but a similar transmission sits in the respective position on my washer. So my question is, is this the faulty part, and/or there another test I need to use or can use to confirm this is the part I need to replace?

Thanks,
Stan

Your model does not have the mode shifter, it has the basic transmission and it may be there is a brake problem. The brakes are not separately repairable and this means replacing the transmission.

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out. If you ordered the transmission from this site and it does not fix the problem you can return it, see the returns policy for details.
