My wife informed me that our washing machine would spin, and when I looked the water was drained from it. To test it I started the cycle again. The washer would not agitate or spin, and there was a loud humming sound. This time the water did not drain, and I was forced to scoop the water out by hand. I've taken apart the washing machine, but nothing jumps out at me. Anyone have an idea?

I'm in the same boat with mine, wish i could help you more. When you open the lid if you stick an object in the lid safety switch does the spin cycle start?Mine does but will stop when i close the lid.I'm thinking i need a new lid switch but it sounds like it could be a couple other things also.Good luck with yours, hopefully you get some replies. And mine also drained so maybe that would save you next time from scooping the water out.

Yours sounds like a faulty switch. I'm more inclined to this there's something wrong with something mechanical down in the motor or gears.
