Help!!!! My Kenmore Washer will fill with water, but when its supposed to be agitating while full, it suddenly drains all the water and just sits there. It SOUNDS like its agitating, but when you open the lid there is no water and no movement. The spin cycle works great, its just when its supposed to be washing and rinsing....please help!

Hi Meagan's Mom
As you already know you have a pretty old machine. In fact, the technology in this machine was changed by Whirlpool a long time ago. What this means is that I can only make an educated guess at your problem. Normally when you have water draining out of the machine during the fill cycle it means a siphon has been created, but I do not think that is the case with your machine. Instead, I think the timer is malfunctioning and sending the motor into the drain mode during the agitation cycle. The repair is to replace the timer, which will cost more than the machine is worth, and you still run the risk that the timer is not the problem. My recommendation is that you take the money that you would have spent on repair and use it towards a new machine. A basic, no frills top loading washer will do a fine job, be very reliable and last a long time. I like the Roper models (made by Whirlpool with Whirlpool parts) because of their low cost but any basic top loader will do. Anyway, sorry not to have better news, but it is really time for a new machine (how long have you had this one?). I know Meagan would want a new one.
