Default Whirlpool washer
Model Number: ghw9250ml1   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com
Sorry I made a typo on the model number - it should be GHW9250ML1.

I have a washer with an intermittent power enabling problem. The machine quit in the middle of a wash cycle last night. I find that if I shake the wire harness that I can get flashes of indicator lights bu I have not been able to find an exact location that would indicate where the problem lies.

I have checked the controller and it has the low voltage power at all times but that is as far as I can go with it unless I take the unit out and make a diagram of the board and another one of the whole washer. I hope that someone could tell me where I could find the diagrams on the net.

I have very little money and must do the repair my self. I am knowledgeable electrically as well as electronically. I am a retired ee.

If the board is bad I would need to replace it and I have been unable to locate one at this time. Yet all of my testing does not indicate that the problem is in the controller.

Thanks - 23Cats

Hi 23 cats

As an EE you know, but I will state it anyway, that diagnosing a problem like yours is very difficult. Sounds like it could be a short in the wiring, and I would check that out first as it is an easy and inexpensive repair.

There are some ways to check the board, here is the service manual for your machine.

Good luck, let us know what you finally conclude.

Here's a website where you can get a tech manual.

Smile Interrmittents....

Hi sidfink43,

Difficult the first part was. I finally concluded that the control panel was not getting the low voltage power and after a lot of measurements I found a wire that had been worn through in the cable that goes from the ccu to the control panel. This however is not all of the problems that are going on in this machine.

At least now I get a light that indicates that the controls are locked - what ever that means - and I feel that when I finally find out what is causing that that the machine will be working OK again.

I am impressed with the way that the low voltage is generated for this machine. I don't think that I have ever seen a smaller switcher used in a production item. Very nice and clever.

Alas it is very late now and I work tomorrow so the "controls locked" light will have to wait.

I do appreciate the url to the manual. Very helpful. Many thanks.

Default Interrmittent and others

I got a chance to work on this thing last night and found the following....

Plug the washer in: the only led on is "Control Locked".
If I press and hold "Control" down and then press and release "Pause/Cancel" and then release the Control switch, the following happens:

1. The display shows 0:35
2. Water temp: Warm/cold.
3. Spin: Medium.
4. End of cycle signal: Softer.
5. Regardless of the position of the mode or cycle select knob the "Delicate Cycle" LED blinks.
6. Pushing buttons, with one exception has no effect. The exception being the "Pause/Cancel" button which turns off everything except the "Control Locked" LED.

The manual states the when the washer is first plugged in that I should hear a "click". I don't. Is this true for all versions of this machine?

Guess that is about it, I am still puzzled and stuck. If I had the diagrams for the various circuit boards I might be able to savvy out a bit more.

Thanks, 23cats

Hi

All versions of the machine should operate the same way.

I am thinking your voltage/wire problem may have damaged your control board. Those things are the weak link in these machines (they are the weak link in any machine they are in)
