Model Number: MTW5700TQO Brand: Maytag Age: 1 - 5 years
My washing machine was skipping the final spin cycle and the the agitator started agitating in only one direction. A senior expert replied to a post similar to this one indicating that it could be failed gear or a worn out clutch assembly or faulty brake shoes. The shaft for the gear case was rusty. Is there any other reason for the symptoms I described?

The two issues may not be related, and the rust on the transmission housing may mean a leak somewhere.
If the machine will fill, agitate, drain, spin, and fill and drain, but then not spin the timer may be the issue. Take off the cabinet and run the machine by jumpering the lid switch and see if you can see a leak.
