I have a Maytag (mod A712) washer, behaves same with light/medium/load and in various cycles. Wash works find except the last spin cycle does not remove water from clothes. So I opened lid, used screwdriver to go-through wash cycles while I watch. For some reasons the SPIN cycle does *NOT* rotate drum and hence water does not drain out of clothes. If I manually try to move tub drum using my hands, it rotates but slowly. I smelled burning rubber, which made me think the belts were worn out, so I bought some from APP.com but that didn't fix the problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

But the tub does spin easy in both directions, manually. Where is the spin belt located?

Where is the spin belt located? have same washer, just broke yesterday. alright, there's two screws on the front bottom, remove, lift front panel out/off using flat head screwdriver. i noticed all the pulley's and belts are on the bottom, but this will expose everything inside so you can watch movements. my house filled up with smoke from the pulley rotating but the belt was NOT (just burning up). i am thinking either 1) the belt(s) need replacing, 2) the pulleys need adjusting (can't find adjustments), so 3) the motor may not be able to provide the torque to spin the load (full load plus water plus spin cycle being a faster spin.) but it spins fine under agitate and rinse mode. hmm, still thinking about this one, but wanted to bring you up to speed on accessing the parts and finding the belts (completely underneath the washer).
