Default Kenmore HE3 Washer Tub out of balance?
Model Number: 110.45872400   Brand: Kenmore   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

My 4 year old HE3 started making noise in the spin cycle a couple of weeks ago and is getting worse. Inspecting today, I found white shavings inside the rubber seal between the door and tub, I also found that the white plastic rim connecting the rubber seal to the tub is cracked. It also seems that the front of the tub (towards the door) is an inch too low. Holding it up makes the tub manually spin much easier. Help! I've taken the back off this machine before to unclog the drain, so i'm not a rookie... but no expert. Thanks!!!

With the back off you should be able to see where the problem in your suspension is.

The tub is held up with 4 shock absorbers and 2 springs. Also the concrete counter weights serve a suspension purpose. One of these things is broken or not in the right configuration.

When you get the tub suspended correctly you may be able to get by with the cracked plastic piece, you will just have to wait and see.

Good luck, let us know what you find out.

Default OK, here I go

OK, my wife is giving me until Monday to fix it or the Sears guy is coming (with his big bill). Looking again, that white cracked plastic looks broken 180 degrees around the tub. I'll try to align the tub, but in case I need a new plastic rim/rubber seal, could you send the link to the part? Thanks.. I'll reply my findings tomorrow.

Hi Smitty

Without being there I am no absolutely certain what part you need, but see if this is the part you need.

Part number: AP3773838

Part number: AP3773838

If there is any doubt call APP and discuss the part with them.

Good luck, Hope you avoid the dreaded and expensive Sears Repair Call. Let us know how it turns out,

Angry Further inspection....

I took the top off of the washer and found that both springs, all 4 hydrollic legs, and the cement weight all on top appear to be working/in place. It looks like the part you have above is the right one, but looks incredibly hard to replace. Turns out the white plastic rim is a barrier between the inner and outer lining of the tub, so I'm not sure or not if the entire tub is out of alignment or not. I can't hardly see or reach where the rubber connects to this part and I'm pretty sure I'd have to remove the entire tub from the back to replace it, correct?
I'm hoping that this part broke because of poor quality of the orginal and nothing else caused it. If you think an intermediate level guy can pull this off, please send a few more scecific instructions if you know. Thanks!!!

You should be able to replace the part, but it will take some time and patience. I strongly advise having a helper, and just taking it slow and steady.

Here is the Service Manual (your machine is a Whirlpool Duet masquerading as a Sears product)

Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

To Smitty33,

My name is Brian and I am part of the Sears Cares escalations team. I know you are trying to do this repair yourself and I do hope you can get it done with no problems. If it comes to a point where it is not viable for you, please reach out to me and my team. We have some service options that will save you some money on the repair, if you decide to have a Sears certified tech come to your home and provide the service. At your convenience, please contact our office at searscares@searshc.com so that we can talk more about what we can do to help. When you have a moment, please send an email. Please provide a contact phone number and the phone number the washer was purchased under (if different than the contact phone number) and we will call you directly. In addition, please provide the screen name (Smitty33) for reference to this issue and we do look forward to talking to you soon.

Default Update... HE3 tub issues

Sears repair called and came this AM. Good news, the nice man gave us a free estimate. Bad news, he thought the rear bearing was out and all together would cost about $700 to fix. Not sure how he knew the bearing was bad. I can buy/replace the white plastic rim ($150) on the front of the tub, but no one has told me if I can do this from the front or if I need to take the entire tub out the back.
Thanks for any help

Hi Smitty

Take a good long look at the Service Manual and then you can decide if you want to attempt the repair.

A rear bearing failure might have caused your damage, so you need to be prepared to fix that also.

These machines are great when they work, but when they do not the repairs are complicated and expensive. If you decide to go with a new washer I would recommend a basic top loader, it will do a great job for you, cost less than any other option, be easy to repair and be less likely to need repair.
