This is a 2nd hand machine so I don't know the age or how to guess it. The problem is the agitator is locked up, cant be turn by hand in ether direction. The tub fills with water and drains.

I'm mechanical with small engines but have never worked on appliances. Would like help with some simple checks to see if the machine is worth fixing or to be used as a boat anchor. I would prefer to fix if possible as funds are limited.

Thanks in advance.

The question here is what is the motor doing when it is supposed to be agitating or spinning. You said it drains but did not say if it spins.

Take off the cabinet and operate it and see if the motor is turning after it fills. If not, it could be that the transmission is jammed.

It may also be that the agitator is jammed with broken cams or "dogs", these parts here.

Part number: AP3119063

Thank you, the dogs are ok, no the washer will not spin. I have tried to move the bottom section of the agitator by hand in both directions. It wont budge no play what so ever.

Ok, that sounds like a bad transmission.
