My GE Hotpoint washer Starts to spin then stops abruptly. It drains and agitates fine. I've watched it cycle with the front off and the motor stops.I removed the belt and motor runs cycle corectly. I thought that elminated controls trying to decide between clutch and transmission. Any Ideas !!!

See if the pulley will turn freely in the spin direction. I am betting it will not and that your problem is with the transmission/brakes inside the transmission casing.
