Washer spins but hums so loud. It still does the job but concerned what to do to avoid breakdown. Sometimes water leaks once in a while. Is it repairable? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Hi 3 Jets
What you have here is a Frigidaire front loader masquerading as a Sears product. Unfortunately, one of the weak spots of this machine is the rear tub bearing. Even worse, the bearing is not a replaceable item, one must replace the rear section of the tub that will have the bearing in it. While we cannot tell where your noise is coming from, this is the likely source, and there is nothing you can do to prevent it from failing completely. The part is expensive, and to have a service tech come out and repair it is probably more costly than the machine is worth. You could have a tech come out and diagnose the problem, and maybe it is something else, but I think for the money it would cost to repair, plus fix your leak problem you are better off with a new machine. I recommend a no-frills top loader; it will do almost as good as the front loader, will cost a lot less, be a lot more reliable and if it does need repair it can be done for a much lower cost than the newer front loading machines. Good luck, sorry not to have better news.

If you can get an amprobe, measure the current to the two pin power connector to the speed control board, or just measure the current to the main input power cable just below the top cover. If well over 3 amps in high speed spin, you have bad bearings, usually too expensive to fix.

Thanks very much for sharing your experience...this helps me assess what my next step is...start canvassing for a new washer. Do you have any idea what will happen next after this humming sound? Will it just stop or the spin cycle will run slower? Do you know how much life is left...2 months...3 months?

Hard to say how long it will last, but a month or two is a good guess. It may go into a slow spin, or it may just come to a roaring stop.
Anyway, sorry you had bad luck with this, hope your new one gives you better service.
