Depending on your model, you'll either see a philips head screw on each side of the console at the front, or they'll be concealed under the end caps of the console. Loosen these screws (you don't need to completely remove them), and the console will slide slightly forward, and swing up on hinges to expose a brass plated steel clip at each corner of the cabinet. Don't be tempted to bother with any screws on the back of the machine. The lid switch connector is in the center of the cabinet top.
Using a flat bladed screwdriver, push in on the clips where they enter the cabinet body, and they will disengage (they may even tend to jump out of place). You can now tilt the entire cabinet forward and away from the chassis. Observe how the cabinet is indexed on four small tabs on the chassis, and is hooked under it at the front. It also interlocks with the machine back via plastic slides on the sides. It can be somewhat frustrating to get it all back together, since it is a bit wobbly, so be deliberate in removing it, and approach the task with a generous measure of patience.
The switch is then accessed along the right side, at the top of the cabinet.
