when I pulled the timer knob out to start the washing machine, it came off the console panel. The plastic dial underneath spins, but the timing indicator for different wash cycles doesn't move. The timer knob may be worn. How do I remove the dial and replace the timer? Ho do I reattach the knob? Does it snap or screw in?

Thanks in advance for your help

Methinks on this model, the timer knob unscrews to remove, then the outer (selector) ring lifts off the outer shaft of the timer to expose two 5/16 inch hex drive mounting screws. The wiring harness connector(s) unplug(s) from the timer body. You may have some trouble locating a part for a dryer this old.
