My Whirlpool washer only agitates in one direction during wash cycle instead of back and forth which causes the clothes to wrap around the agitator. Will not spin during spin cycle, even though I tried to get it to spin manually. Took it apart and couplings look fine. Any help appreciated.

Longbow, Did you notice any bumping or grinding noises before the failure ? Check the agitator auger assembly, grasp the agitator top and attempt to turn the agitator in both directions, it should only turn in one direction, and "lock up" in the other direction. If it's not an agitator "dog" or agitator spline issue, it would be a failed gear in the transmission. Part number: AP3096209
The no spin issue could also be due to the failed gear or a worn out clutch assembly or faulty brake shoes, Part number: AP3094537
