Model Number: 110.20912991 Brand: Kenmore Age: 5 - 10 years
My wife tells me the machine does not want to start agitating until she moves the clothes around. This has happened on the last 4 loads so I'm starting to believe her. I saw it once. The machine fills fine and is ready to start the washing cycle when it happens After she moves moves the clothes around and closes the lid, the rest of the cycle is fine. She says she might do this once or more than once to get it going.
Any ideas on where to troubleshoot? Thanks, charleyk Related Models |

OK. It happened again. Now it's making more sense. It is when the machine gets to the spin cycles that it stops working. Works fine while filling and agitating. I found that when it stops, my just pushing down on the lid with a little pressure right above the lid switch, gets it going. I think it was a coincidence that my wife repositioned the clothes and it worked. It was probably the opening and closing of the lid.
So, it looks like I will replace the lid switch. Is there any way the problem is with plastic pin that goes into the switch? Also, is there anything special I need to know to replace the switch? It looks like 2 screws is all that holds it. Thanks |

Just for the heck of it, I tried something today and I think it worked. Just not exactly sure if it will last. Seeing that if I push down on the lid above the switch gets the machine going, I removed the rubber bumper from the lid switch pin. Then I ground (actually sanded on a belt sander) just a hair off the bumper. about 1/16 maybe. i reinstalled the bumper and it looks like that worked.
Do you think i'm just prolonging the inevitable? |
