Model Number: 70 Series Brand: Kenmore Age: 5 - 10 years
My wash machine has recently had problems where there is a smell of burning rubber and the tub is not spinning. There are not issues with draining, agitating, or the timer mechanism, just the spin.
I would guess this is a seal or belt issue but do not have the knowledge to be certain, any help would be appreciated. |

In order to provide the most accurate advise I need the complete model number of the washer. You can find it under the lid.

The number you posted is the serial number.
The model number should have a 110 prefix and 7 or 8 digits after. Gene.

The first thing I would check is the motor drive coupling (#13 on the gear case/motor/pump break down diagram).
You have to remove the cabinet to get the access. - The part number for the motor drive coupling is AP3963893 Good luck and Happy New year. Gene.

The 110 prefix in the model number means your dryer made by Whirlpool.

Hello Gene,
I changed the coupling and am still having the problem. I will explain the problem better for you this time. When the timer gets to the spin cycle the tub drains but does not spin. If the lid is opened and reclosed the tub starts to spin. This happens again at the second spin cycle. I also replaced the switch and this did not help either. I am out of ideas and am looking for some more help please. Could this have something to do with the timer, but if it does why would the draining initiate? Thank you for your help, Steve |
