I have a GE profile front loader washer that has started to chew up its rubber boot. It makes a very loud squealing noise and will begin to smoke. When I check on it there is little bits of the rubber along the edge of the drum. I have made sure that the machine is perfectly level and that the boot is properly attached. Its a new boot (the second one) because it has shredded the previous ones. How can I fix it so it stops doing this?

I am thinking that something is broken in the support system and it is causing the washer drum to be out of place. Take off the back and the top and see if you can observe a problem with the supports.

It should not be doing this, and the fact that you had a previous boot shred itself is indication something is wrong with the tub.
