I have a Maytag Atlantis washer, when it is in the spin cycle it sounds like a jet is coming through my house. It works fine, it's just very, very loud. It just began acting like this within the past 3-4 weeks. Can anybody help me out? Thanks

Hi Jimmer

It is very difficult for us to answer questions like yours because we cannot hear the noise or determine how it sounds.

A couple of things you can check.

1. Is something caught in the pump, or is the pump breaking up?

2. Is something caught between the tub and some other part?

3. Is the noise coming from right under the tub where the transmission is?

4. Is the noise coming from a pulley?

I would take off the front and try to listen and pinpoint the noise.

Sorry I could not be more helpful. Good luck and post if you need further guidance once you learn more.

Remove the belt and see if you can spin the pump pulley freely. Now see if by turning the spinner pulley in a clockwise direction, there is any grinding noise. Also, check to see if the motor pulley spins freely. This should help isolate the problem. (If you notice that clothes are being torn in the wash, this can indicate a brake or thrust bearing problem.)
