During the spin cycle the washer started making a very loud bang on every spin revolution. I emptied the clothes, then tried the spin cycle again, with no laundry in it, still the same banging noise. What could be the problem? Thanks.

You might have a busted spider support arm in the tub. Turn the spin basket and you will hear it hitting the tub housing.

I turned the tub by hand and no knocking noise. Any other suggestions?

You might have a busted shock, just remove top and front kick panel and check.

I will check for a busted shock, but not sure what to look for. I ran it today with no load in it. It was ok until it got to the final (fastest speed) spin, then it began making the knocking noise again. But no noise on the slower spin speeds before the final spin.

Could you tell me what to look for to see if it has a busted shock?

They are attached to the bottom of the tub with plastic pins.

I checked the shocks, they look ok. While sitting in front of the washer, I turned it on the spin cycle. Looking through the glass door, I could see the back center of the tub wobble off center a little. When it went to high speed spin, then it wabbled more and began the knocking. I'm guessing the tub is centered on a bearing in the rear, and something's gone wrong in the rear center??? The washer is too heavy for me to slide or move at all. Guess I'll have to contact a repariman when I start back to work in the future. If you have any other ideas about this, please let me know. Thanks a lot for helping me. Pam M.

Before you call a repairman, get some estimates. My best guess is $400 parts and at least $300 labor. Seems like the spider support busted plus probably bad bearings. Not worth fixing unless you can do it yourself.

A few years ago, on another machine, Sears charged $150-$180 for service plus one year on anything that might go wrong, on an old machine. The motor was burned up. Just a one time call would have been well over $220, but with the service contract they replaced the motor and the next year sevice contract on everything to do with the machine. At that time it did not matter the brand or model. I paid less by getting the repair with the one year maintainence contract. Had they not been able to fix it, they would give an allowance of the regular price of the old machine when it was new, towards a new Sears machine. Thanks for the advice. The good old reliable washers are the Whirlpool direct drive, about $130 used depending on your area.
