Kenmore stack wash/dry 417.99872990. After done filling tub with water the washer motor hums loudly, blows circuit breaker after few minutes. Pump and spin cycle work well, but will not agitate. Has anyone seen something like this? What should I look at next?

Remove the front kick panel of the washer, remove the belt, and turn the tranny pulley in the agitate direction. If jammed, you have a bad tranny. Post results.

Turn the tranny pulley in the agitate direction. When it engages, can you feal "rough" spots in the tranny? If not, your tranny is probably ok. A verification of this would be the lack of a burnt belt.
Turn the timer to wash cycle, remove timer and cover. Check the contacts that should be closed. If you find any burnt ones, you have a bad timer.
If ok, check the tranny pulley when you put it in wash, if it turns, then abruptly stops. you have a bad tranny.

I had a service man take a look at it and he measured both windings on the motor and said that the start winding was near zero ohms. I removed the motor and intend to replace it. Any suggestions on motor replacement?

Usually on a burnt/shorted start winding you can see it, just look inside the motor.Or with a good digital meter, you could confirm a short per the schematic
