Washing machine fills then motor hums until it trips overload. I cannot turn the agitator by hand. I wold appreciate any ideas

Tilt the washer back and remove the belt. Check the water pump and tranny pulley for a siezure. Lots of times it is the water pump, but if the tranny pulley will not turn in the spin direction, you probably have something stuck in the tub. Post results.

I removed the belt and found that the motor won't turn. I plugged machine in turned to spin cycle and motor hummed til overload tripped again. The machine worked fine the day before. Is it likly that the motor would sieze that tight overnight?

Your motor ran out of oil and now the bushings are probably worn, time for a new motor! You can order it part # AP4025648
