Squeaking and walking Amana NAV5800AWW
Amana NAV5800AWW washer, purchased in 2005. During the spin cycle, the washer makes a pretty loud pulsating squeak--seems to be one pulse per rotation, so for a 710 RPM spin, that's 710 squeaks per minute. It also walks up to several inches.
Running the washer empty, the squeaking on the spin cycle is still there, but not as loud. No squeaking on agitate.
There are black shavings all over the floor of the washer cabinet.
Update: I called a local reputable appliance store and explained my problem, and they suggested the belt. I bought a belt and replaced it. The old belt had some obvious signs of wear, including an area on the belt's inside where the innermost layer was starting to peel off.
After running two full loads of laundry, the loud squeak on spin persists, however, the washer seems to have stopped walking.
Any more thoughts? Is there a second problem?
Update #2: An appliance repair person came to my house, and being baffled, he called Amana's "pros-only" repair hotline, to be told that it was the brake pads. Wishing to avoid the massive labor costs for a multi-hour teardown to replace $10 of brakes, I paid the trip charge, ordered brake pads, and replaced them--sure enough, they were pretty well worn. Squeak persists.
Any thoughts? :-(
