Model Number: GVW9959KQ2 Brand: Whirlpool Age: 5 - 10 years
Have whirlpool washer with calypso wash motion, model GVW9959KQ2 purchased in 2003; unit is top loader with modified agitator to use less water and pivot when washing. Unit worked fine until recently clothes began to slip below outer wash plate….U-joint was worn out, replace it with kit that included leveler, inner wash plate, etc…cleaned the unit thoroughly as crud had accumulated and had a moldy smell. Smell was virtually eliminated…use of liquid fabric softener is not recommended…after replacing parts clothes continue to slip past outer wash plate and basket. The flexible gasket that is on the perimeter of the outer wash plate was pointing up when the parts were changed out and it was believed it should be facing down so when reassembling unit after installation of u-joint reversed the direction of the flexible perimeter gasket to point down…a very snug fit between the outer wash plate and basket resulted but clothes still slip past the flexible gasket and get stuck, appreciate any insight as the flexible gasket was is now partially torn trying to release clothes that were partially slipped past it…which direction should the flexible gasket be pointing and does the replacement outer wash plate you offer include the rubber grommets recommended when it is changed out.

To summarize, appreciate answers to the following questions.
1) any idea why clothes would slip by the outer washer plate and get jammed between the flexible gasket attached to the outer wash plate's perimeter and the stainless steel basket? 2)what direction should the flexible gasket on the outer wash plate point, down or up? 3) When trying to remove jammed clothes yesterday the felxible gasket began to tear away from the outer wash plate, it appears the outer wash plate now must be replaced as the flexible gasket is considered part of the outer wash plate...is this the case? 4) Assuming that need to replace gasket/outer wash plate does the outer wash plate offered include the rubber grommets that are recommended? |
