Default Icemaker does not make ice
Model Number: GS5SHAXNL01   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

My icemaker is not producing Ice. This is in a Whirlpool Gold Conquest side-by-side refridgerator. I read alot of guides and I was able to remove the icemaker from the freezer while still connected.

I read a guide that said to jump T and H to initiate a harvest cycle and I did this, but nothing happens at all. I have the icemaker switch to ON where it says infrared sensor on the cabinet and i am holding in the infrared sensor cover and the door latch so the light goes out and the fridge thinks the door is closed.

I also tried jumping L and V which supposedly will cause water to come out of the water supply tube, but again nothing happens.

Is there something I am doing wrong? Is the icemaker head bad? I would hate to try to replace this thing and find out it is something else. Do the door latch and infrared sensor flappers really have to be held down for the jump thing to work? How long does it have to be jumped for?

Default more info

I found a detailed diagnostic guide and here are some results.

It said to power off the fridge and do a resistance check on several of the jump holes.

L to H (heater) -> Expected 72 ohms +-10% -> My Measured: 72.4 ohms
L to M (motor) -> Expected 4400 ohms -> My Measured: 4050 ohms
V to N (water valve coil -> Expected 300 ohms -> My Measured: 242 ohms

Next it says that when powered on, using a voltmeter in AC mode should detect 120 VAC from L to N which indicates there is power to the icemaker. My measurement was 107.3 VAC across L to N.

Still when I jumper T to H while the fridge is powered and running, I get no motion, no noise, nothing.

When I jumper V to L, nothing as well, I was told this should cause the water valve to open and release water from the water tube.

Hoping I can fix myself. Please help.

If you have 0 to 35 volts at L to ground, the Infrared board set is bad. should be 120vac. That is why, when you jumped L (line) to V(valve) you got no water. make sure you are not blocking the invisible beam when voltage testing. Also be very careful as it is line voltage The visible red led is an indicator is for other diagnostics and its not providing the beam. 2 boards come in the kit( transmitter and receiver) replace the pair.
unplug unit before servicing.
good luck
