Check to see if something is caught between the tub and basket. If not, I am thinking it is something inside the transmission in which case I would just continue to operate it. It will either fix itself, which is ok, keep on running with the noise which is ok if it doesn't bother you, or break completely in which case you then get a replacement. If you have more than 10 years use out of the machine you have done fine, it doesn't owe you anything.
