The washer makes a loud notice when starting into the spin. The load is not off balance as I have tried with just water and it does the same thing. The noise stops after it gets into the spin. Thank you for your help.

Hi Jeankie

Noises are about the hardest thing to diagnose in a forum like this.

It is possible that what you hear is the brake releasing to allow the tub to spin or the transmission moving into spin mode. If this is the case, given the age of your machine and the cost and complexity of repair I think you best move is a new machine. If that is your choice you can just keep operating your machine until it fails, and who knows, it may go one for quite a while.

You can pretty much duplicate your existing machine with a Roper (less expensive) or Kenmore or Whirlpool top loader for about $350.00, less if you can find a sale or a scratch and dent.

It's what I would do.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
