Default Washer will occasionally keep filling - must shut water off to stop
Model Number: WPRB9220 COWW   Brand: GE   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

My GE washer occasionally continues to fill and leak out. We turn the water off to stop the water and it doesn't continue filling when you turn it back on. It appears that the valve closes. This happened in year 1 and the repairman said the cause was too much water pressure. We have since run with lower pressure. Now it's happening again. I'm inclined to think it's the Water Valve and/or the Pressure Switch however, isn't there something to safeguard from overflow? It doesn't happen all the time but I don't want to babysit the machine. Any thoughts?

last night my GE washer overflowed with water. It did not stop filing with water. I am trying to find out what it may be. do you have any idea. It was draining and spining but now it doesn't even do that. this is my second GE and less then 5 years old they both stop working. My other GE would not spin. I have to fix one and refuse to buy another GE. Can anyone be of help?

Water inlet valve is sticking open and when you turn the water off it allows it to close. It could be sticking because of sediment in the water getting through the wire mesh screen on the inlet valve. Clean it and flush the water out or get a new valve.

Did it stop when you cut the washer off? yes-water level pressure switch
no - water inlet valve

I hope it's not too late to get a response to this, but -- Is there any way to know for sure that the pressure switch is the culprit? I ask because this happened to my wife yesterday. All the symptoms fit the pressure switch, but the problem happened just the one time, and I haven't been able to get it to repeat. Changing out the pressure switch seems simple enough, but without knowing for sure that the old one is bad, I can't know for sure that a new one will fix it, and can therefore never leave my washing machine unattended again. Thanks.
