Model Number: LSQ8243HQ Brand: Whirlpool Age: 5 - 10 years
I stuffed some towels in there and now it won't work right.
What it will do is go through the entire cycle untiil it gets to the Rinse, then the motor stops spinning and makes a buzzing noise, as if it can't spin the drum. I was able to pull all the towels out of the washer, then turn it on and hold the trigger switch down on the lid, to make it turn on. It then would spin at High speed. I then dropped one towel in at a time to get the water out of them, and kept adding up to about 7, it ran fine wih them being hand dropped in it. Once the water was out of the towels or the spun for a few minutes, they were pretty dry. I then removed them and put them in the dryer, but it will not work when there is a full load of water/towels in the washer. So it goes through the Agitation no problem, where I get a problem is right before rinse. What it does is turn the pump on, then tries to speed up to remove the water from the tank. Well it can not speed up, I hear a clicking noise and the motor is starting to overheat when this happens. Anything touching the plastic base at the very bottom, stops it and it wiill then make this clicking noise. I have tried gettiing it spinning then dropping the towels back in there and that will work one by one, but if its not spinning fast enough and slows down then it will stop the motor again, so I am guessing I have a bad motor and its triggering the relay, by pulling to much power to spin it. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks for all the help. Bryan Ads By Google Related Models |

I think we have good news for you.
You should not have a motor problem, since it will agitate. This is good because a motor is expensive. You probably need to replace the clutch. This is good because it is a relatively easy repair and it is an inexpensive part. Here is a good site which will take you through the process. Clutch Replacement on Whirlpool and Kenmore Washers Good luck and let us know how you do.

Whirlpool Model LSB6400KQ1, Type 111 The water fills the tub adequately and the agitator moves normally and everything appears to work until it hits the rinse cycle when the water is being pumped out, but the tub is not moving. The motor has the usual sound during rinsing is just that the tub is not spinning. The tub feels engaged (is not moving easily) when I try to move it by hand which it also seems to be the way it has been when it used to operate. Today I replaced the motor coupler (with the new style that has metal inserts) after a 30 seconds read thru the posts, not paying attention that it was for a different problem
Sounds like another bad clutch also? (same as bry21317) Thanks! |

For both of you, read my article in the "sticky" above "replacing direct drive washer brake shoes", just might be your problem.
For Bry, shine a light in the tub, you probably have something stuck in the tub; either that or sticking brake shoes, You are lucky your motor didn't burn up.

My washer works normally until the rinse cycle. The water drains out and starts to refill the tub. It sounds like it is spinning, but without the turning. The soap does not always rinse out either. I have to restart the rinse cycle to get the rest of the soap out.
Sometimes I think I might smell a hint of a burnt rubber smell. Do you think it is the clutch, transmission or brake shoes? Thanks! Last edited by miswmn : 04-10-2011 at 08:49 PM. |

Remove the outer cabinet, short the lid switch, and in spin, verify the clutch housing moves without the spin basket turning. If so, you have a worn out clutch and bad brake shoes.

I have a Whirlpool Model lsq9560pw3. How would you know if the clutch is bad versus the brakes? Thanks!! DOUG

Thanks for the help on these changes... I wound up changing the motor coupling and clutch assembly (with brake shoes). When I tested it, the lid switch fell apart in my hand, so I changed that out as well. It was hard to turn the inside tub, but I pushed it a couple of times to see if something was stuck between the tubs. Apparently, the object came out. The washer is just as good as it was when we first bought it. Thank you!
P.S. The tutorials you give on YouTube are excellent! |
