A very handy friend of mine just looked at my Maytag MAV6000AWW washer that's making a funny noise and giving off a burning sent. He said it appears the motor is shifting to one side and hitting the side of the washer. He is not familliar with this washer but said a spring might be missing to hold the motor in place. Any advise or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would hate to go spend $$$ on a new washer if this can be repaired with a little effort. Thank you in advance.

Remove the front panel and check the motor and the tun support. Run the washer without the front panel and try to pinpoint the noise. Post the results.
