Model Number: 417-43142200 Brand: Kenmore Age: 5 - 10 years
My washer stopped on the final spin cycle of a load. Thinking it may have been off balance I reset it to the rinse and spin again. The washer filled but did not progress w/ the drum turning or spinning. The water will drain out and fill again but will not turn or spin. Does this sound like the motor or control board as I have been told? And is this difficult to replace?

Hi Tammy
This is a very nice machine made by Frigidaire for Sears The part you are referring to is a speed control board, and it is very easy to replace. Just remove the back cover unplug the board and take out a couple of screws where the board is attached, along with the cover and out it comes. Unfortunately, while it is like this is your problem (these fail on a regular basis on these machines) there is no certainty it is your problem. Unfortunately the only way to tell is to remove and replace. Anyway, good luck and let us know what happens. Sorry we could not be more definitive.

Hi Tammy
Your question, any ideas?, unfortunately has an answer of yes. The problem is there are too many yes answers. Given that your machine would start the wash process the speed control board seemed a logical place for the problem. Now that we know that is not the problem, there are a number of suspects, including the timer, wiring, pressure switch, motor, door switch/lock (does your door lock?) and probably a few others that would come to mind if we spent some more time thinking about it. An on-site Tech would simply replace parts until the problem was solved, but you do not have that luxury. I will invite others to post on this thread to see if they have any good ideas, but without being there I cannot give you a whole lot of guidance. Sorry you spent the money on an expensive part which did not fix it, and lets see if someone else has a good idea.

I appreciate the help. The door does lock. The washer will fill, but no longer advances into a cycle. If I turn the knob to final spin, it will not spin but will eventually advance to off and the door will unlock. If I start it out on wash, it fills but does not advance into washing w/ the drum turning, the knob does not seem to advance into the next cycle. I have broken down and called in a repair person...hopefully they will be able to figure it out w/o replacing parts until it does.

Hi Tammy
Thanks for the reply. I think you are doing the right thing, in that you need someone giving advice who is actually looking at and testing the machine. If I had to place a bet, it would be on replacing the timer, with a wiring problem in second place, but I do not feel strongly enough about it to encourage you to buy the part in hopes of fixing the problem. Anyway, please update us as to what the final fix is, since it will be helpful to us and to others who read this forum. Good luck

According to the repairman, it is the speed control. I got the wrong part before. The repairman could not order the part or give me the part number because his system was down. Can you verify that this is the correct part number for the speed control? AP3967975. Thanks for all your assistance!

Hi Tammy
Well I feel both good and bad, good because what we thought was the problem is the problem, but bad because you had to incur the expense of a tech visit. I have cross referenced your part with the Sears Parts site and that part does come up as your speed control board. Here is the APP site with the APP number and the manufacturer's number. I recommend you double check by going to the Searsparts site, put in your model number (with a . after the 417) and confirm everything. Part Details - FRIGIDAIRE CONTROLLER ASSY, SPD, part number: 134149220 Can you post how you happened to end up with the wrong part. That may be helpful to others. As you can see, there are a lot of visits to your posting. Good luck, and let us know when it is fixed.
