My old washer won't spin fast enough to dry the clothes. There are oil drops on all the lower parts of the transmission. The solenoid seems to work. I was able to spin it freely by hand, but it slows back down to a slow spin. The set screw seems to be tight. Has the transmission gone, or just a seal?

In order to provide the most accurate advise I need the complete model number of the washer. The number you posted is the serial number.

Would it stop spinning if you hold the basket?

Gene.

it says model #C1104430081 there is a small space between the 0 and the 4 and the 4430081 is a little smaller. Serial #AC 22147. This is a Canadian washer. The C might denote Canada? It was made by Whirlpool for Kenmore. Yes the basket stops if I hold it.

Most likely the problem is a bad transmission.

Unfortunately the APP does not ship parts to Canada.

make sure the belt is tight, make sure that the set screw is flush with the outer part.If so then look under and see the spring that holds the clutch plate down, remove the spring and take out a spacer[washer] then replace the spring and then check the spin.
