Model Number: MAH 5500B Brand: Maytag Age: 5 - 10 years
Its age I don't know.
It has no timer or control panel. I haven't studied it yet. I only want the agitator to work; maybe the pump. ------------------------------------- 1) - what are wire colors of Motor starting and running windings? 2) - Does it run backwards to pump water out? 3) - Are there any solenoids or relays I need to consider? Thanksa buncha, Nevin Ads By Google Related Models |

I assume that what you want to do is to hot wire this thing so it will turn and wash walnuts. Sounds reasonable to me.
Here is a link to the service manual. Although it doesn't say so, your model is covered in detail at the back. Good luck, hope this helps. https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&p...1OWNm&hl=en_US

Thanks a lot;
I'll check it out this evening. Nevin ----------------------------------- "I Thank You" © Nevin Hawlman This little note I send to you, seems such a little pay. To thank you for the thoughtfulness, you chose to send my way. Such little time and ink I used, inadequate, it seems. To show that I appreciate, how much your kindness means. But be assured, this sentiment, is genuine, and true. And so I sit with pen in hand, to write these words to you. Thanks again, for thoughtfulness, and thanks for kindness shown. May you and yours, be blessed like me, with blessings of your own. - - - ========================== Quote:

WOW !!
What a complex piece of Serviceman aggravation. (and owner dissatisfaction?) I stripped it down to 2 wires coming from the pump(it works great), and 5 wires from the Motor. It won't start under load, unless I spin the tub. I'm betting the 2 Capacitors on the Motor Board are starting Capacitors? Does the board also run it slow in wash cycle? I ran it with white as common, and brown or black as hot. The difference was change of direction. Suggestions appreciated. I think I'll disconnect the motor and run the tub with a garage door opener ! HAH !! (I'm not kidding) Comments? Nevin ======================================= |

Nevin,
You are going far beyond what we normally do on a machine, so my comments at least are limited. Capacitors almost never go, so it might be a wiring issue. Good luck, hope you get it going.

Do you know what the Motor Control Printed Board does?
I suspect that it controls the motor speed and direction. In The Good Old Days, wives used a Scrub Board in a tub of Fels Naptha suds. In my days with RCA Whirlpool, we only had "Wig-Wag Assemblies" and "Mouse Traps" Health and Happiness, Nevin GardenGrapevine.com |
