When machine stops to go into another cycle, there is a loud THUD, and then it starts filling machine for next cycle. Does this sound like something repairable or do I need to buy a new machine?

You need to operate the machine with the cabinet off and see if you can determine if the problem is in the suspension springs.

Since we do not have a model number we will assume that this is the standard Whirlpool/Kenmore Direct Drive model.

Here is a video which will show you how to take off the cabinet.

You can bypass the lid switch by inserting an insulated wire in the outer two holes on the plastic connector coming from the console.

BE VERY CAREFUL OPERATING THE MACHINE WITH THE CABINET OFF.
