My Kenmore washer will fill with water and nothing else. I have turned dial to spin and it made a motion as if it was going to spin, but nothing happened. There is a hum like motor wanting to start. So I turned it off.
What do I do now? Wimpy

Most likely problem is the motor coupling.

This video will show you how to check it. Note you do not need to take off the pump, just tie it off to the left.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

The video was great. But I do not have a direct drive machine. Mine is an eithty series and is belt driven. Over 15 years old. Do you have any other suggestions? I did try other sites or links on that site but none gave me the video I needed. Thanks for your help> wimpy

Ok, sorry about that, did not check out your model. It is really old!

Here is a site that dicusses some issues with your machine.

http://www.applianceaid.com/inglis_how_itworks.html

I test and repair donated appliances for a non-profit, and we occasionally get in one of these. Even if they are in good working condition we will scrap them, as they are just too old. If you can fix your inexpensively, go ahead, but it may be time for a newer machine, if not a new one.

Good luck and let us know what you do.
